The Sleep. I has it.

How much sleep do you average? When it comes to sleep and the recommended amount of time for a person to sleep there always see, to be various opinions. The most common, and probably the most widely accepted one is that a person needs an average of 8hours sleep a day.

I got this app (seeing as there is an app for everything) on my iPhone and what it does is it monitors the amount of time you sleep every night. It uses the gyro in the iPhone to detect how active you are during the night and categorizes that into various states of sleep, awake, light, dreaming and deep sleep. Sounds a bit far fetched to me, but the thing is I think it really works! Here is a few screen shots (not from my sleep pattern, but from the app website) on what it looks like. Apparently normal sleep is a wave-curve every 30 minutes. Meaning you move up and down from a deep sleep to a lighter sleep/dreaming state every 30 minutes.

According to my app, and after 15 nights of using it I average 6:31 minutes of sleep per day. Sounds a bit crazy hey, but I feel great! I manage to get along with even less i think. If I break it down a bit more, I average about 6 hours of sleep during the week, and then I catch up over 1 night during the weekend where I sleep at least 8 hours.

Sleep app on the iPhone FTW!!

Me and my iPhone

Well, I decided to finally give in to the ridiculous price of the iPhone here in South Africa and get myself one on contract. There was a few  reasons that contributed to this decision, although there was really only one that mattered, these reasons were:

1. I was pretty fed up with Cell C, their reception sucks just about everywhere, I had enough of ‘missed call’ messages and bad reception.

2. I was due for an upgrade, well almost due

3. I want an iPhone, because it’s an iPhone

So, the third reason is the only real determining one here. I remember the days before the iPhone even launched. It was the most anticipated Gadget in the history of the world! Probably since the iPod. I’ve had enough of reading all these articles day after day after day checking out how cool it is, and not being able to get one.

After it got releases in South Africa, It was only a matter of time, my decision was held back due to all of the complaints.. no 3G, no MMS, no Copy & Paste, etc… but when the 3G S came out with all of the improvements, I thought HELL YEAH!!! Lastly, it was the soon to be  released OS 4.0 for the iPhone (due anytime now) which also improves the phone even more, and incorporates most of the fixes and features the fans have been shouting for.

So, currently I am loving it!
