My FIFA2010 World Cup Highlights

1. The opening game and Tshabalala’s goal. the build up over the last 2 months was intense, we had the fever so hecticly but few could imagine what we were going to be in for. The traffic, the flags on the cars, the people, the vibe! Everything built up and exploded into one big ass explosion when Tshabalala scored the magnificent first goal of the world Cup.

2. The vuvuzela: It’s already dubbed the word of the tournament. Never has an instrument been so loved and hated during a sporting event. It changed the face of football world wide (will change I think) forever! The vibe that is created with this horn is unbelievable! It created a tournament unique to South Africa, like never before!

3. England’s goal that never was. Yeah we will hear the English bitch about this till the end of the world, but who cares. After England struggled through the qualifiers, the nation found itself in the next round facing the old enemy. England deserved to lose to Germany, but Lampard’s shot crossed the line and would have made the score 2-2 at half-time, if the officials had spotted it. The one positive was Sepp Blatter promising Fifa would reopen the discussion on goal-line technology.

Just after this one was golakeeper Green’s blunder… who can forget.. poor guy, English fans probably burnt his house down…

4. Ghana! After Bafana Bafana crashed out during the pool games, all Africa’s hopes rested on Ghana, and they did not dissapoint! Reaching the quarters against Uruguay, which should have been a win. It was amazing seeing the people routing for Ghana!

5. Suarez’ hand of God II. I find it a bit cheeky to call it the “Hand of God II”. But nevertheless, Suarez’ deliberate hand ball to prevent Ghana’s goal enabled them to go through to the semis.

6. Personally for me it was being able to go to Soccer City 3 times, and just to be part of it. Experiencing the vibe!  90000 people in Soccer City.

7. Also a definite highlight was the privilege to see the World Stars play on our soil. People like Drogba, Kaka, Messi, Forlan, Ronaldo and Torrez. This was a personal dream of mine… seeing these guys in action was enough for me, had I seen nothing else I would have been happy.

In the end it was an awesome time, I was part of it! I was there! I will remember it!

Spain, FIFA WC 2010 Champions!

Just in case you don’t know yet.

If Netherlands won this game I would have never watched soccer again, I am sick and tired of the best team losing. But apparently this is a common thing in football.

Idiot Fan arrived in a wheelchair

During the WC-SAemi final between Spain and Germany this guy ran onto the pitch in the 5th minute. He is now facing a list of charges in the “World Cup Court” (I didn’t even know there was a World Cup Court). Apparently he arrived in a wheelchair, then quickly jumped up and ran past security onto the pitch.

“He suddenly sprang up and ran onto the field,” Mthetwa said at a press conference in Pretoria.

Dude, next time you decide to run onto the pitch at least do it at the end of the game, when you’ve watched most of the game at least.

This image from Yesterdays semi final between Netherlands and Uruguay. I am still pissed and the way Uruguay beat Ghana, so I am well pleased that Netherlands went through! This kick though…could have been way worse..
