Crysis 2

I’ve never been a big fan of this, but you have to admin that on a best-available-desktop it does look pretty freaking awesome!! Check it out!

via [EmpireOnline]

It plays like a cross between Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3, making use of the science-fiction setting to endow the player with a set of super-human abilities courtesy of the Nano Suit that each character wears. The Nano Suit allows players to momentarily defy gravity, turn invisible on command and pummel the ground Iron Man style to cause maximum impact to anyone nearby.

The New York setting offers a unique Metropolitan environment, featuring distinctive arenas for the multiplayer carnage to commence. The first map we play is Impact, an area which juxtaposes New York’s old architecture with the financial district’s distinctly contemporary edge. It does so by literally throwing the two together, having a modern office complex crash through a traditional brick building.

The New York setting will also provide increased verticality, complementing the gameplay which allows you to leap around, grab onto ledges and challenge the way you move in an FPS title. Much like Modern Warfare, you pick a class that has a primary and secondary weapon as well as perks. The difference here is that the chosen class awards a perk in the form of a unique power for your Nano Suit. You’ll also find as you start making consecutive kills that you are awarded with bonuses (killstreaks), such as an Alien Gunship that appears to effortlessly mow-down anyone in its way.

It feels distinctive, supporting different approaches to battle, encouraging a focus on the strengths in your own gameplay. Whether you want that focus to be on stealth or a run-and-gun approach, you’ll find the Nano Suit’s abilities adept at serving any of your murderous requirements.

As we’re presented with another map, Rooftop Gardens, located on the (you guessed it) rooftops of New York, we switch to a more team-based game mode. Crashsite has objects dropping from the sky to be captured for as long as possible. Just like King of the Hill mode you find elsewhere then, just with an aerial twist.

The New York rooftops serves a particularly striking visual setting, again showcasing the unmistakable visuals of the Crytek 3 engine (aka the thing that makes it look pretty). It’s unsurprising that Crysis 2’s multiplayer is looking so good, combining the winning formula of addictive gameplay and a rewarding system, considering Crytek’s UK team also created the so-good-it-hurts Timesplitters titles.

There’s plenty more to come from Crysis 2, but from what we’ve currently seen, the multiplayer looks to be in serious contention for the FPS multiplayer crown. So if you’re going to spend all night shooting people over the internet while listening to the abuse of several young children, you might as well do it in style.

Green Screens FTW!!

I came accross this video. Crazy how green screens have become the new stage on which actors act. The VFX people in the background are really the unsung heroes of the movie scene.
